BREAKING: Todd Boehly Leaves Chelsea As Clearlake Capital Acquires Full Ownership

Todd Boehly

Todd Boehly has officially ended his ownership involvement at Chelsea Football Club, with Clearlake Capital taking full control of the Premier League club.

Chelsea confirmed that affiliates of Clearlake Capital Group will acquire Boehly’s ownership interest. As part of the transition, Clearlake will also acquire the stake held by fellow co-owner Mark Walter, giving the investment firm full control of the club.

Boehly, who became the public face and chairman of Chelsea after the consortium’s takeover from Roman Abramovich in 2022, will step down from his role as chairman.

In a statement, Boehly described his time at the club as an honour and thanked the Premier League, Chelsea’s coaches, players, staff and supporters for their contributions. He also said he was confident Chelsea was positioned for continued success under Clearlake’s leadership.

Clearlake, led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, said it intends to continue investing in Chelsea’s infrastructure, sporting performance and player development.

Importantly, the club said the ownership change will not affect its day-to-day operations, leadership or strategic direction. Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss will remain an important stakeholder in the ownership group.
