A Canada-based Nigerian doctor identified as Zo has publicly expressed regret over his past views on detained separatist leader, , stating that recent events have caused him to reassess the warnings Kanu made years ago.
In a statement shared online, Zo said he never supported the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) because he believed the group’s approach was overly aggressive and found it difficult to accept Kanu’s predictions at the time.
According to him, after revisiting several of Kanu’s old videos, he now believes that many of the concerns raised by the IPOB leader have materialised.
“You see Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, I never supported IPOB because I thought they were too aggressive and I didn’t believe them then. But now, after watching several of his old videos, it appears that the man saw the future. Everything he said years ago is happening right before our eyes,” Zo said.
The medical practitioner also referenced Yoruba nation agitator , describing him as a respected figure among many Yoruba people. He further pointed to the reintegration of some former Boko Haram members while lamenting that Kanu remains in detention.
“Even Sunday Igboho is now a respected figure among the Yoruba people, and we even have repentant Boko Haram members. However, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention in Nigeria. It’s very sad, and I feel bad that I didn’t believe him earlier,” he added.
Kanu, who is facing terrorism-related charges brought by the Nigerian government, has remained a central figure in debates surrounding self-determination, national security, and political inclusion in Nigeria.
