
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, received the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, at the CBN Head Office in Abuja.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by both institutions to deepen inter-agency cooperation in strengthening financial intelligence systems, improving regulatory coordination, and enhancing the effectiveness of Nigeria’s Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework.
According to sources, the engagement also focused on reinforcing data-sharing mechanisms and aligning strategies aimed at safeguarding the financial sector from illicit financial flows.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining reforms that promote transparency, financial integrity, and compliance with international standards in Nigeria’s financial system.
