A Catholic church has reportedly taken precautionary measures to prevent its large altar crucifix from falling, securing the structure with heavy chains following a recent incident in Ecuador in which a falling cross fatally injured an officiating priest.

In a video circulating online, the church’s large crucifix can be seen reinforced with heavy chains, apparently intended to keep it firmly in place and protect the priest and worshippers in the event of an accident.
The officiating priest was also filmed wearing a safety helmet while conducting church activities, a measure that appeared aimed at protecting him from potential head injuries should the crucifix or another object fall.
