The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has struck out two appeals filed by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, against the suspension suit instituted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal High Court.

In a unanimous ruling delivered by a three-man panel comprising Justices Hamma Barka, Adebukunola Banjoko, and Okon Abang, the appellate court struck out the motions dated 20th and 25th March 2025 after a formal application for their withdrawal was moved.

The Court, in its decision, also awarded the sum of ₦100,000 in costs to the 1st respondent, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as damages. Furthermore, the court directed that Appeal No: CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/395M/2025 be expunged from its records.

Senator Akpabio had approached the Court of Appeal seeking several reliefs, including an order to extend the time to seek leave to appeal the decision of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered by Honourable Justice Obiora Egwuatu on 10th March 2025 in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025. He also sought permission to appeal the ruling, extend the period to file a notice of appeal, and stay further proceedings in the High Court pending the outcome of his appeal.

With the withdrawal and subsequent striking out of the motions, all reliefs sought by the Senate President stand nullified at this stage.

This ruling represents a significant legal victory for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the ongoing legal tussle surrounding her suspension, reinforcing the High Court’s earlier decision and granting her a moral and judicial boost in the matter.

The case continues to attract nationwide attention given its political implications within the National Assembly.
