Court Reserves Judgment on El-Rufai’s Bail Appeal

El-Rufai

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna has reserved judgment on the bail appeal filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as he challenges his continued detention.

The appellate court reached the decision after hearing arguments from both sides in the matter.

El-Rufai’s counsel, Paul Erokoro, SAN, urged the court to grant his client bail, maintaining that the offences for which he is being held are bailable. He also argued that El-Rufai’s continued detention was making it difficult for him to adequately prepare his defence.

However, counsel to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ayodeji Adedipe, opposed the application and asked the court to dismiss the appeal.

Adedipe told the court that El-Rufai had already made three previous attempts to secure bail at the Kaduna State High Court, all of which were unsuccessful.

The appeal was heard by a panel led by Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi.

After listening to submissions from both parties, the court reserved judgment but did not fix a date for its delivery.

Until the court delivers its ruling, El-Rufai will remain subject to the existing detention order.
