Daniel Regha Calls for Equal Enforcement Over Use of Military Camouflage in Nigeria

Daniel Regha

Social commentator Daniel Regha has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the wearing of military camouflage by civilians and armed groups in Nigeria.

In a statement shared on social media, Regha noted that it is a criminal offence for civilians to wear military uniforms such as camouflage, urging Nigerians to avoid doing so, especially amid rising insecurity across the country.

He argued that such actions can create confusion in public spaces, potentially leading civilians to be mistaken for soldiers.

However, Regha also criticised what he described as inconsistent enforcement of the law, stating that while civilians are often harassed or punished for wearing camouflage, armed criminals and bandits have been seen using military-style uniforms to carry out violent attacks.

He further alleged that some of these armed groups openly display such uniforms on social media after committing crimes, raising concerns about selective justice and accountability.

Regha stressed that while the law against impersonating military personnel is justified, enforcement should be fair and consistent, regardless of who is involved.
