Residents of Alulu, near Abakpa in Enugu State, witnessed an unusual scene after a suspected thief was apprehended for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing car batteries and a Point of Sale (POS) machine.
According to reports, the suspect was caught by residents after allegedly committing the theft. Instead of immediately handing him over, some members of the community turned the incident into a public spectacle, asking him to carry one of the stolen car batteries on his head while entertaining the crowd with a microphone.
The suspect reportedly danced and performed in front of residents, who watched the unusual display before he was eventually handed over to the police.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with some residents describing it as a way of shaming alleged criminals, while others have raised concerns about public punishment and the need to allow law enforcement agencies handle criminal cases.
The suspect is now expected to face further investigation by the police as authorities look into the alleged theft.
