The Emir of Argungu and Vice Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Samaila Mera, has thrown his weight behind Governor Nasir Idris’ bid for a second term, saying continuity is necessary to sustain the pace of development in Kebbi State.
Emir Mera made the position known on Sunday when the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, visited his palace in Argungu.
Although the monarch stressed that traditional rulers are expected to remain apolitical, he said leaders who demonstrate measurable commitment to the welfare of their people should be recognised for their performance.
According to him, Governor Idris’ administration has recorded visible progress in key areas including infrastructure, education, security and economic empowerment.
The Emir said the governor’s performance had provided sufficient grounds for the people to support his return to office, particularly to ensure continuity in ongoing development projects.
He said, “Sustainable development in a democratic dispensation can only be achieved if a track record of selfless service is used as a yardstick for electing political leaders.”
Mera further described the development recorded under Idris as unprecedented and urged the governor to maintain his focus on delivering projects and programmes that directly impact residents.
The royal endorsement comes as the governor’s media team intensifies its engagement across the state to showcase the administration’s achievements and interact with traditional institutions, stakeholders and social media practitioners.
The Emir also commended the media team for its public enlightenment efforts, stressing that government achievements needed to be consistently communicated to citizens.
Earlier, Commissioner Yakubu said the delegation was in Argungu to pay homage to the monarch, seek his royal blessings and engage stakeholders as part of its statewide publicity campaign.
The team later met with social media practitioners from the Argungu Emirate, covering Argungu, Augie, Arewa and Dandi Local Government Areas.
Governor Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, also holds the traditional title of Jigon Kabin Argungu.
