Enugu 2027 Reps Race: Ibom General Assembly Endorses YPP Candidate, Aniagu

Comrade Chidiebere Aniagu

The Ibom General Assembly, an association of Akwa Ibom indigenes residing in Enugu State, has endorsed the candidacy of Comrade Chidiebere Aniagu, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.

The endorsement followed an interactive meeting between Aniagu and members of the association, who applauded the candidate for what they described as an unprecedented decision to visit and engage with their community.

During the meeting, members expressed surprise and appreciation over the visit, noting that it was the first time a House of Representatives aspirant seeking to represent Enugu North and South Federal Constituency had personally engaged with their association in such a manner.

They described the gesture as a departure from conventional political practices, where communities are often overlooked because they are not considered part of the immediate voting population.

Aniagu, according to the report of the engagement, used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to inclusive leadership, stressing the importance of recognising and engaging all communities, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds or places of origin.

He maintained that leadership should transcend ethnic and geographical considerations, adding that every community should have a sense of belonging in the political and developmental affairs of Enugu State.

The candidate’s engagement-driven approach, which emphasises consultation, respect and inclusion, was identified as one of the reasons behind the assembly’s endorsement.

The endorsement is expected to further strengthen Aniagu’s political engagement across different communities as he seeks election into the House of Representatives in 2027.

For members of the Ibom General Assembly, the visit went beyond a routine political engagement, as they described it as a demonstration of a candidate’s willingness to reach out to communities beyond immediate electoral considerations.

They said the gesture reflected the need for a more inclusive political culture in which every resident and community is recognised and given a sense of participation in governance and development.
