The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced a general restriction of movement across designated routes in the Enugu metropolis on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as the state holds its monthly environmental sanitation exercise alongside the Enugu International Marathon.
According to ESWAMA, the sanitation exercise will commence at 6:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m., during which the movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted along streets and areas designated as routes for the marathon.
The affected routes include Abakaliki Road, Uduma Street in New Haven, Okpara Square in Independence Layout, Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Chief Z. C. Obi Link Road, Mgbemene Street/CIC Road, Agbani Road, Awkunanaw, Zik Avenue, Nza Street, Edozie Street and Uwani.
Other affected areas include NTA Road in Independence Layout, Kenyatta Street in Uwani, Ogui Road, Mkpotiti Road, Anang Road in New Layout, Mbanefo Street, Odoeze Street, Edward Nnaji Street and Presidential Road, as well as other designated marathon routes within the Enugu metropolis.
ESWAMA urged residents to comply with the movement restriction and participate actively in the monthly sanitation exercise as part of efforts to maintain a clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable state.
The agency also clarified that waste disposal at designated collection points will not begin until 1:00 p.m., after the conclusion of the Enugu International Marathon.
Residents have therefore been advised to keep their waste safely until the designated disposal period and avoid dumping refuse indiscriminately.
The announcement was signed by the Managing Director of ESWAMA, Richard Onaga, who encouraged residents to support the state’s environmental cleanliness initiatives.
