Comrade Chidiebere Aniagu, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has told members of the Owerri indigenous community in Enugu that he would not make unrealistic promises to secure their support, insisting that his actions and performance would speak for him if elected.
Aniagu made the statement during an engagement with members of the Owerri community in Enugu, where he sought their support for his House of Representatives ambition.
During the interaction, community members asked the aspirant what they should expect from him if he eventually secures election into the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
Responding, Aniagu said he would rather demonstrate his commitment through meaningful service than make elaborate promises that might not be fulfilled after the election.
He explained that he was relatively new to partisan politics and had only recently begun his journey into elective political leadership, adding that he did not want to follow the pattern of politicians who make extravagant campaign promises but fail to deliver when given the opportunity to serve.
Rather than promising heaven and earth, Aniagu expressed confidence that his actions, commitment and contributions to the constituency would convince the people that they made the right choice.
The aspirant also stressed that leadership should be measured by tangible impact and dedication to the welfare of the people, rather than the volume of promises made during political campaigns.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for members of the Owerri community to express concerns over what they described as years of political exclusion despite their longstanding presence and contributions to Enugu.
They commended Aniagu for visiting and engaging them directly, describing his visit as unprecedented in their political experience.
According to members of the community, he was the first House of Representatives aspirant, to the best of their knowledge, to visit them for direct political engagement and consultation.
They subsequently pledged their maximum support for his 2027 ambition, expressing appreciation for his message of inclusion, fairness and respect for people regardless of their ancestral origins.
Aniagu, who also serves as a national vice leader and Enugu State chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), reiterated that leadership should not be defined by one’s state of origin or place of birth.
He maintained that his vision was to promote a constituency where every community enjoys recognition, equal opportunities and a sense of belonging.
The engagement forms part of Aniagu’s consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections as he seeks to represent Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
