The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects in two separate intelligence-led operations targeting cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
According to the police, the operations led to the recovery of two firearms, three live cartridges, and other incriminating exhibits, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime.
In the first operation, carried out in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel pistol allegedly hidden in a bush after acting on information obtained during the investigation of a suspect already in custody. Seven other suspects linked to the case were also arrested.
In a separate operation in Ezeagu Local Government Area, police arrested five additional suspects following the interrogation of another suspect under investigation for alleged cult-related offences. Officers also recovered a pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges.
The Police Command said investigations are still ongoing, with efforts underway to arrest other suspects believed to have escaped and recover more weapons.
Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended the operatives for the successful operations and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across Enugu State.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support crime-fighting efforts.
