Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has reportedly opened the door to a potential move to Manchester City, with the Premier League champions expected to submit a formal proposal for the Argentine midfielder.
Fernández is said to be receptive to Manchester City’s project under manager Enzo Maresca, making a possible transfer increasingly plausible as the two clubs prepare to discuss terms.
Manchester City are now expected to make an official approach to Chelsea, with negotiations likely to focus on the financial package involved in the deal.
Chelsea, however, are understood to maintain a firm position that Fernández will only be allowed to leave if the financial proposal is considered sufficiently attractive and the club can use the proceeds to strengthen Maresca’s squad.
The Argentine international remains an important figure at Stamford Bridge, meaning City would likely have to make a substantial offer to convince Chelsea to sanction his departure.
With Fernández reportedly open to the move, the next step now rests largely with the two clubs as Manchester City prepare to present their proposal.
If an agreement can be reached, Fernández could become one of the biggest Premier League transfers of the summer, while also reuniting with Maresca in Manchester.
The ball is now in Manchester City and Chelsea’s court.
