Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, sparked mixed reactions on Saturday when he was spotted wearing a cap bearing the emblem of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in the state.
The rally, which was held to drum up support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, saw a large turnout of APC faithful, party leaders, and supporters. However, the appearance of Fayose, a well-known PDP stalwart, stirred considerable attention as he openly declared support for the APC leaders.
Speaking at the event, Fayose praised President Tinubu’s leadership style and commended Governor Oyebanji for his performance in Ekiti State. According to him, national interest and development should be prioritised above party affiliations.
“I am here today not as a member of APC, but as a concerned Nigerian who believes in good governance. I support President Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji because they are delivering for the people,” Fayose stated.
His presence at the rally, coupled with the symbolic wearing of a PDP cap, has since generated debates within political circles, with some interpreting the move as a gesture of maturity and statesmanship, while others question its implications for party loyalty.
Fayose’s latest appearance reinforces his recent stance on putting the nation’s unity and progress above partisan divides, a message he has echoed in multiple public outings in recent times.
