Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has strongly condemned the physical and sexual assault of women and girls during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro, describing the incident as “horrific” and “degrading.”

In a statement released on Monday, Tinubu noted that while she holds deep respect for Nigeria’s diverse cultures and traditions, “no tradition or custom grants any man the right to violate the dignity or freedom of any woman or girl.”

The First Lady commended the Nigeria Police Force for the arrests already made in connection with the incident and called on all relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

She also urged the victims to seek necessary medical and psychological assistance, offering prayers for their healing, peace, and strength during this difficult time.

The viral footage of the assaults, which occurred in Isoko North Local Government Area during the Alue-Do Festival, has sparked widespread outrage across social media, drawing attention to the urgent need to protect women and girls from abuse in public events.
