First Substantive AFUED Vice-Chancellor Assumes Duty, Rolls Out Strategic Development Plans

The Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, witnessed the formal assumption of duty by its first substantive Vice-Chancellor, marking a new chapter in the institution’s history since its elevation from a College of Education.

Addressing the University community at the Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre, the new helmsman described his appointment as a “divine arrangement by God,” noting that it was not merely about occupying an office, but about laying the foundation for a University destined to become a centre of excellence in teacher education, research, innovation and national development.

In his maiden speech, he unveiled strategic priorities that would define his tenure, including curriculum innovation, research and innovation in teacher education, staff development and capacity building, welfare of staff and students, infrastructure upgrade, ICT and learning environment improvement, enhanced funding and income generation, as well as strengthening alumni relations.

He assured members of the University community that his administration would pursue prompt payment of salaries and allowances, work to clear all outstanding staff entitlements in record time, and maintain regular engagement with staff unions to ensure mutual understanding and timely resolution of issues.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the University Governing Council for conducting a fair, transparent and credible selection process, praising the Council’s integrity in resisting undue pressure and upholding the principles of justice and fairness. He further appreciated the Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, CFR, Jilo III, the people of Ondo, and the Alumni Association for their tireless efforts in achieving full University status for the institution.

Dignitaries at the colourful ceremony included the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Ganiyat Adeola Yusuf; members of the Governing Council; representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education; Senate and congregation members; principal officers of the University; as well as friends, relatives, staff, students, and guests from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

With his action plans set in motion, the new Vice-Chancellor pledged to work with all stakeholders to make AFUED a national reference point in the training of professional teachers, educational leaders, and change-makers.
