As part of the flagship project of the Shared Prosperity administration of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Urban Renewal Project continues to progress as the General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), Engr. Innocent Ikpamezie embarked on sensitization tour across the city of Owerri in a bid to migrate Street Traders to the Egbeada Market.
The Urban Renewal Project aims to eliminate traffic grid lock across the city of Owerri and this includes the migration of street traders off the road. Interestingly, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma has graciously approved the allocation of shops at Egbeada to these traders with one year moratorium on payment. This allows enough time for the traders to financially stabilize before remittance of obligations to the Government.
Engr. Ikpamezie, who was in the company of other OCDA staff, moved to various roads within the city of Owerri such as Ama JK, Mbaise Road, Njemanze Street, Rotobi Street, School Road, etc. While addressing the traders, he stressed the need for compliance with immediate effect, to enable the Government open up the roads for free flow of traffic. The OCDA and other Government agencies entrusted with the responsibility of enforcement, would commence immediate patrol to ensure compliance.
This approach, as directed by His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma has redefined the process of migrating street traders as against the old practice that would throw them into pandemonium. The market leaders, joined the OCDA boss in sensitizing the traders on the need to comply and support the Government in her developmental plans.
