Grazing Routes: Federal Government And Southern Governors Disagree

Some States in Nigeria might be on collision course with the Federal Government as the FG has concluded plans to recover the grazing routes in the Country.

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FDARD) had directed that the grazing routes should be traced and reclaimed back.

The routes that have been overtaken by infrastructural development will not be reclaimed. It would be done under the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP). The Ministry said this would reduce the clashes between the herdsmen and the people.

Remember that The Precedent of Nigeria has in an interview on Arise TV said he was not happy with the statement credited to Southern Governors on open grazing and said the FG would go ahead with the program.

Consequently, The Southern State Governors has however rejected the initial moves, stating that pastoral farming is a business and should be seen as one. The Governors further said that the FG should employ modern ways of doing pastoral farming by taking advancement in science and technology.
