Chief Ireke Kalu Onuma, a chieftain of the apex Igbo socio cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, has harped on the need for Ohanaeze to chart a new and genuine direction towards the course of the Igbo nation as it relates to continued marginalization of south east zone in the scheme of things of the country.
Kalu Onuma, who is aspiring for the office of the Secretary General of the highest Igbo group, assured that if elected, he will awaken Ndigbo and help her powers, reverse her miseries and restore her to her place of peace.
The Ohanaeze chieftain vowed not to be party to lead Ndigbo into any superficial treaties that cannot stand the test of time.
The Abia-born Kalu Onuma, said his election as Secretary General would be all inclusive devoid of rancour and as well lead Ndigbo on the path of progress and development.
Recall that the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo had zoned the offices of President General and Secretary General to Imo and Abia states respectively. The Ohanaeze General election comes up on 10th of January, 2021 in Enugu state.
However, Onuma Kalu, in his addressing during his formal declaration for the seat Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasized, “even our interactions with our brothers from the Benue and the middle Belt Region have been very encouraging and rewarding. No man is an island and one of the surest securities against the marauding bands from the desert is a closer union with our friendly neighbors that will help us build a larger and stronger resilience and resistance.
“I need not say more except perhaps to also inform you that Ndigbo worldwide are an enormous and potent force that can be built and harnessed at will. I am therefore, coming to OHANEZE to help organize the affairs of igbo and to make her a functional force that can be relied upon. Ndigbo must own a workable operational agenda in ink that addresses health, education, environment, youths, economy and security
“Ndigbo must own an agenda that can be referred to by all stakeholders at anytime so that when we stray, we can exactly tell by how many degrees and be able to retrace our steps. We must own a plan and a far reaching one at that. To become a serious group, OHANEZE must become a pacesetter organization and not a reactionary one. Our reactions and positions on issues should be as already contained in our agenda. And it will be my duty as secretary to ensure we execute all our plans as agreed.
“Ndigbo are blessed with a lot of bright minds. I will work to get them from standing aloof on the sidewalks into mainstream Igbo think-tanks, decision making process and Action Teams. It is true that many prophetic fore sights are resisted in the beginning, especially by people and groups entrenched in old paradigms. On this, I promise to tell you the truth at all times no matter the subject or the circumstances.
“The office of the secretary General of the OHANAEZE is an enormous work that is going to be demanding to the body and mind and the whole of the man. Therefore, a compassionate, multitasking man still in his vigor, with the requisite learning and proven experience is who we need to make a success of this endeavor as we move forward, “he concluded.
