Imo: Assessment of Ihedioha’s Govt Under 50 Days In Office

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines “Assessment” as a thorough appraisal or evaluation of the performance of a project to determine its successes and failures.

In the last fifty (50) days, Imo state and her people had witnessed a systematic change in governance and administrative pattern.

This period under review no doubt has witnessed both tremendous successes and humongous failures in some areas as the case maybe.

Obviously, I may not be favoured by majority of individuals seriously supporting the new government in the state owing to the fact that my assessment may end up disappointing their desires, but as a non partisan and a neutral entity who is only interested in revealing issues of public importance, I will not allow personal interest to becloud my good moral sense of reasoning in this evaluation.

On Environment and Sanitation, the administration of Governor Emeka Ihedioha has performed 40 over 100% percent, but is not out of play to assume that the appointment of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim as chairman of July sanitation, the record of the new government in environment and sanitaton may blossom.

This is so owing to the fact that Imo State was recorded the cleanest state for three consecutive years under Ikedi Ohakim as Governor. The former Governor may not hoard the secret behind the success.

In another development, government flag off of some erosion and ecological control scheme in Ideato and other parts of the state in collaboration with international agency will stop at nothing but to improve the desire of the public from assessing Governor Ihedioha’s administrative expertise in erosion control. I think, there is hope for the state under this government.

On the other hand, the successful clearing of Douglas road from illegal hawking, the planting of trees and distilling of drainages by ENTRACO led by a determined vibrant young leader, Hon Emeziem under the overall supervision of Governor Ihedioha is quite commendable. No doubt, this feet may engineer the boost of its percentage performance soonest.

On Agriculture, at present, there is no known report of success in agricultural sector so far apart from a committee set up by the government to determine the way forward for the sector, even when another committee was said to have been constituted by the “rebuild” government to take charge of Adapalm, Avutu Poultry and other similar governor investment which Imo people are yet to see green light. I am also hopeful that things will get better should government seats well.

In assigning mark to this sector under the 50 days of this administration, the committee handling this area is yet to make a remarkable headway to warrant any reasonable accolade. Therefore, we score him 10 over 100% percent for now pending the constitution of state cabinet.

On road construction, so far, there is no record of road construction by the rebuild government apart from the ones recently approved by the Governor.

However, since it is said that approval is not implementation, we are yet to conclude that the new government has flagged off any road construction in the state under the last 50 days in office, but we are yet to sum up if the recently constructed Protea Hotel road behind Concorde Hotel was carried out by any federal agency (NDDC) or the state government under Governor Ihedioha.

However, it will not be fair to leave this area without assigning mark commensurate with the record observed so far in the sector. In as much as we do not have concrete evidence whether the present government has flagged off any road construction yet, there is a scoop that the state government is rehabilitating and revitalizing some dilapidated roads which can attract 20 over 100% percent for now. Though, we are optimistic that things will improve once a Commissioner for Works takes over the saddle soonest.

In Transportation sector, in as much as the committee set up to recommend way forward for the state owned transport company, ITC Ltd had yet to come up with any recommendation, it is worthy of note that the terminal station of ITC along MCC road has received a facelift thereby raising the hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel in the sector.

Meanwhile, the recently announced vehicle bus stops and parks by the government is not only timely but germane. Good to assume that the allocation of vehicle bus stops and parks will ensure that road users are not impeded from accessing available routes within the state capital.

This administrative oversight of the rebuild government in the transport scheme is indeed remarkable, and has attracted much mark owing to the fact that the idea has attracted successes rather than failures in the scheme under 50 days in office. We award the government 45 over 100% percent in this sector.

On Health sector, the new government is yet to announce her plans to rebuild the sector. But the flag off of the 2019 immunization exercise by Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor, Lady Ebere Ihedioha at Isiala Mbano local government may raise the bar thereby increase the consciousness of Imo people from having access to good health care services.

Though, the Ihedioha led administration is still economical with information over what the state government will do with the 27 general hospital buildings constructed by the immediate past administration since information has it that some of the buildings are bedeviled with court ligations over alleged wrong conversion of community lands by government without proper compensation.

Following the achievements recorded so far in the health sector, we will not be stingy to award 35 over 100% percent, believing that things will change once a Commissioner for Health is appointed to man the sector.

In Civil Service, it is still skeptically secretive to ascertain the true position and plight of civil servants under 50 days in office having been accused of paying them 70% salary instead of 100% as contained in the manifesto of Governor Ihedioha.

Be that as it may, the new government has played it’s part in this sector having continued to maintain the opinions and recommendations of the public not to sack or suspend workers.

The action of Governor Ihedioha to set up committee to investigate recruitment of workers by past government may not be viewed as a vendetta mission against opponents hence we skip awarding score to it until final result is uncovered.

On Pension Matters, it can be viewed and submitted that Governor Ihedioha is adopting the same method adopted by his predecessor, Chief Rochas Okorocha that was widely described as a conduit pipe that was used to drain the joy and comfort of Imo Senior Citizens which ordinarily, should not have approved.

The issue of dragging our parents to Owerri or any location at the local level (no matter the grammatical nomenclature) used by the Governor’s Adviser on Media, Steve Osuji in the controversial press release is not only unhealthy but a deviation from civility to tyranny which was never expected from the new government, hence, we score the government 20 over 100% percent within the 50 days the rebuild administration has lasted in office.

In order not to border our teeming readers with long epistle of government’s assessment, we have decided to split this exercise into parts to enable the public digest the preliminary appraisal of Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s administration successes and failures within the last 50 days in office.
