A House of Representatives candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Hon. Chief Kevin Tobias Chukwu, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to building a better country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Chukwu, also known as Ochiri Ozua 1 of Amagu Ikwo, made the call in an Independence Day message to Nigerians, particularly the people of Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency and Ebonyi State.
He said the anniversary should serve not only as an occasion for celebration but also as a moment for reflection on the state of the country and the responsibilities of those seeking or occupying public office.
According to him, millions of Nigerians are facing economic hardship, while young people continue to search for opportunities and many communities contend with insecurity and uncertainty.
Despite these challenges, Chukwu said the resilience and determination of Nigerians remained a source of hope for the country’s future.
He highlighted the ingenuity of Nigerian youths, the strength of women, the wisdom of elders and the perseverance of ordinary citizens who continue to work and contribute to the nation’s development despite prevailing difficulties.
Chukwu, however, stressed that hope must be matched with responsible leadership.
He said public office should be regarded as a responsibility to serve the people rather than an avenue for personal comfort, power or status.
The NDC candidate called for leadership focused on protecting lives, creating economic opportunities, providing infrastructure, strengthening institutions and ensuring that public resources translate into improved living conditions for citizens.
He also urged leaders to create an environment where young Nigerians can pursue successful careers and businesses within the country, while promoting communities where citizens can live and work without fear.
“Nigeria has come too far to surrender to hopelessness,” Chukwu said, expressing confidence in the country’s ability to overcome its challenges.
He maintained that building a better Nigeria would require responsible leadership, accountable institutions and citizens who remain committed to the country’s progress.
“Nigeria will rise. Nigeria must rise. And together, we must build the Nigeria we deserve,” he said.
Chukwu concluded his message by commending Nigerians for their resilience and praying that the sacrifices of the country’s founding generation would not be in vain.
He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
