Insecurity, Hardship Worsen Under Tinubu, Says Baba-Ahmed

Former Special Adviser to Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned that Nigeria is currently facing more severe challenges than when the administration assumed office in 2023.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed stated that conditions across key sectors, particularly the economy and security, have deteriorated. According to him, “We are in deeper trouble than when you came.”

He noted a worrying escalation in violence across the country, saying the scale and impact have surpassed previous expectations. “Violence is becoming far more serious than we anticipated. Three years into President Tinubu’s presidency, we are witnessing a pattern and level of violence affecting our people in ways we have never seen before,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed further stressed that President Tinubu came into office with clear promises to tackle insecurity, improve living conditions, and ensure the safety of Nigerians. However, he argued that those expectations have not been met. “The president himself would admit that he has not lived up to these promises or succeeded in making Nigerians feel safe,” he added.

He also questioned the timing of recent government engagements, referencing the President’s state visit to the United Kingdom, which some media reports described as celebratory in tone.

“It came just days after one of the most horrific attacks in Borno State, and shortly before the departure of a large delegation led by the President,” Baba-Ahmed said, expressing concern over the optics and priorities of the administration.
