Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has reaffirmed the importance of citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that public involvement and election monitoring are essential to ensuring free and fair elections.
Henshaw made the remarks while speaking about her role as an ambassador for IReportINEC, an initiative of the TAP Initiative aimed at encouraging citizens to participate in the electoral process and report election-related incidents.
The actress said she was delighted when she was approached by the organisation to serve as an ambassador, noting that her experience during the 2023 general elections strengthened her belief in the importance of civic participation.
“When I was approached by TAP Initiative to be an ambassador for IReportINEC, I was thrilled. Based on my experience in the 2023 elections, I believe every citizen has the right to participate in the democratic process,” she said.
Henshaw emphasised that increased public involvement and scrutiny could contribute to electoral transparency and accountability.
“More eyes on everything are a good thing, and we will be diligent in ensuring that elections are free and fair,” she added.
