Sabon Tasha area located on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis have been facing incessant attacks from bandits in recent time – residents now live in constant fear, as they don’t know when these evil men will strike. A few days ago, a woman and her children were abducted by these criminals at ‘oil village’ In the area. Also, about 50 persons were reportedly abducted a few weeks ago at Angwan Gimbiya in the same area.

The spate of attack in Sabon Tasha and environs is worrisome, however, these 2 things Might be fuelling it:

(1) The restoration of mobile networks in the area.

Since the Kaduna state government restored mobile networks in Sabon Tasha and other trouble spots after over a month of shutting it down, cases of kidnapping seemed to have catapulted. It should be noted that bandits use this medium to communicate with informants, who gives them information about the target communities.

To tackle the situation on ground, mobile network might have to be re-shutdown in Sabon Tasha and environs.

(2) Failure of Sabon Tasha Residents To Obey the ban placed on motorcycles.

Despite the ban placed on motorcycle operation in Kaduna state, residents of Sabon Tasha and other areas on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis have refused to obey – It is very common to see commercial motorcyclists operating even late at night. It should be noted that bandits are fond of attacking on bikes, as such, it becomes difficult for vigilantes to differentiate between these criminals and the normal motorcycle operators.

For insecurity to be curtailed, the authorities would have to strictly enforce the ban placed on motorcycles.
