Nollywood actor and former Labour Party spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has launched a strong criticism of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, questioning his leadership capacity and political decisions.
Speaking on the state of the opposition coalition, Okonkwo dismissed concerns that Obi’s political moves would weaken the alliance, insisting that the coalition remains intact and unaffected.
He, however, took aim at Obi’s recent party defections, noting that the former Anambra State governor had changed political parties multiple times within a short period. According to Okonkwo, party-switching in itself is not the issue, but rather the reasons behind such decisions.
Okonkwo argued that Obi’s explanation for leaving political platforms—allegedly to avoid internal crises and conflict—raises serious concerns about his ability to lead a country facing complex challenges.
“I said I will not speak for a man who, even if he wins, does not have the capacity to secure his own victory,” Okonkwo stated, adding that Nigeria requires a leader with the resilience to confront its pressing issues.
He further questioned how a leader perceived to be avoiding political challenges could effectively manage the country’s economic, security, and governance difficulties.
Describing Obi’s temperament as “incompatible” with Nigeria’s current needs, Okonkwo concluded that his exit poses no loss to the coalition.
