Families of worshippers abducted during an attack on an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) congregation in Omugo, Oro Ago District, Kwara State have revealed that they paid ₦20 million and provided food supplies to secure the release of their loved ones after months of negotiations with their captors.

According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦1 billion for the release of the victims before reducing the amount to ₦150 million during negotiations. After prolonged discussions, the families were able to raise ₦20 million and supply food items as part of an agreement reached with the abductors.

However, despite the payment and agreement, tragedy struck as the kidnappers allegedly killed five of the eight worshippers who were being held in captivity.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the worsening security situation and the growing menace of kidnapping across the country.
