Raises N5m for Nomination Form

A Lagos-based youth group, Agege Youth Vanguard, has officially declared its support for Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, in the forthcoming local government elections. The group also announced it has raised the sum of ₦5 million to purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for the chairmanship position on his behalf.

The declaration was made during a press conference held on Thursday at the Agege Local Government secretariat, where prominent youth leaders from the Agege community gathered to express their endorsement.

Speaking at the event, the group’s Coordinator, Ismaeel Garba, stated that their decision was based on a thorough evaluation of all aspirants vying for the council chairmanship seat. He emphasized that their support was driven by the need to ensure competent grassroots leadership rather than personal or political gains.

“We believe the transformation Nigeria needs starts from effective grassroots management,” Garba said. “After careful scrutiny of the aspirants’ backgrounds and records, we concluded that Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa stands out as the best candidate for the job.”

According to Garba, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa boasts an impressive academic and professional profile. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Hertfordshire, England, a Master’s degree from Aston University, Birmingham, and is currently a PhD student at Babcock University. His work experience includes stints at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Providus Bank, and Parallex Bank, where he served as Head of Performance Management and Strategy, in addition to managing a private real estate business.

The youth group also commended Obasa’s contributions to community development, particularly through his football academy, VINOD, which has produced several young talents now pursuing careers in Europe.

Addressing concerns over political favoritism, Garba stated, “The fact that his father is the Speaker must not deprive Agege of its best option for growth. We’re determined to rally the good people of Agege — even his father, indifferent or not — to support him.”

In addition to backing Abdul-Ganiyu, the Agege Youth Vanguard pledged to sponsor APC nomination forms for seven councillorship aspirants across the wards whom they deem capable of working alongside him for the local government’s development.

The group concluded the briefing by acknowledging the achievements of the outgoing Council Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, for what they described as “remarkable strides in infrastructure and human capital development” during his tenure.

As the Lagos local government elections approach, political alignments such as this continue to shape the contest across the state’s 57 council areas.
