Let Census Determine Whether Christians or Muslims Are More Numerous In Nigeria – Pastor Paul Enenche

Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, has called for a fresh census to determine the actual religious composition of Nigeria amid a growing debate over whether Christians or Muslims constitute the larger population.

Enenche made the call during a church service on Sunday while reacting to recent comments by Islamic cleric Sani Yahaya Jingir, who urged Muslims to use their voting strength to support Muslim candidates and back the continuation of a Muslim Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Jingir had also claimed that Muslims are more numerous than Christians in Nigeria.

Rejecting the claim, Enenche argued that the only credible way to determine the religious population of the country is through a properly conducted census in which citizens are given the opportunity to state their religious affiliation.

The pastor maintained that Christians are widely represented across Nigeria and should not be treated as a secondary religious group.

He also criticised security agencies for allegedly failing to act against statements that could heighten religious tensions and potentially trigger violence.

Enenche urged the authorities to take inflammatory comments seriously, warning that unchecked rhetoric could worsen divisions and threaten peace ahead of the 2027 elections.
