The All Progressives Congress Stakeholders in Umuahia North local Government Area of Abia State have called on the party leadership in the state to disqualify Nnenna Ogbonna to save APC from imminent danger of losing the December 18th Council Election in the LGA.
This was contained in a petition addressed to the Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa and made available to newsmen on Thursday, in Umuahia.
According to the party Stakeholders, “Recall that in 2019, Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna was an aspirant for the House of Assembly election and lost to Mr. Ugochukwu Meregini who won her at the primaries.
“That after the House of Assembly election, Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna returned back to civil service, meaning that she did not resign her appointment, but only came to disrupt the candidature of Mr. Ugochukwu Meregini.
“That the same scenario is playing out again, this time it has been observed that Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna is still under the employment of Abia State Government, Office of the Head of Service, Bureau Establishment and Pensions.
“That Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna was born in 1971 according to her official records, finished her First School Leaving certificate in 1984, got appointed as junior staff in 1991, and presently at grade level ten to be retired in 2028.
“Most importantly, Nnenna Ogbonna did not comply with the party’s mandatory requirement of resigning from her present job, three months before purchasing the APC Nomination Form for the Chairmanship position.
“That with the above reasons, we, Stakeholders of APC in Umuahia North LGA, wish to make our position clear that Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna is not qualified to stand for any election under the umbrella of APC and should be disqualified in the forthcoming Council Chairmanship Election coming up in December 2020”.
However, as at the time of this report, the APC chieftain, Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna could not be reached for comment, but, APC Chairman of Umuahia North local Government Area, Mr. Israel Nwachukwu, in a press release, dismissed the purported petition of the party stakeholders.
The APC chairman insisted that Nnenna Ogbonna emerged as party’s Chairmanship candidate during the primaries after beating Barrister Ugochukwu Ndubuka.
He said the party was poised to wrestle power from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the upcoming poll, urging the electorates to troop out en mass and cast their vote to the APC candidate.
