Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has apologised for his recent comments following the club’s defeat after holding a meeting with manager Michael Carrick and the club’s leadership.
Martinez confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, October 15, describing the meeting as positive and saying both sides had an opportunity to discuss the incident openly.
“Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after the game,” the Argentine defender said.
The 28-year-old admitted that his frustration following the defeat influenced his reaction, acknowledging that he may have expressed his feelings at an inappropriate time and place.
“Everyone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity. The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise,” he added.
Martinez also acknowledged that his comments did not promote unity within the club, stressing that Manchester United perform best when everyone works together towards a common objective.
“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that,” he stated.
The Argentina international further expressed confidence in the commitment of everyone at Old Trafford to restoring the club’s success, insisting that players, coaches and other members of the organisation share the same ambition.
“I know that every single person at Manchester United is doing everything possible to achieve our shared ambition: bringing the success that this club and its supporters deserve,” Martinez said.
He concluded by indicating that the matter had been resolved and that the team’s attention had returned to achieving positive results.
“With this situation now behind us, we are fully focused on winning together,” he said.
The meeting and subsequent apology appear to signal an effort to put the disagreement behind the club as Manchester United seek to maintain unity and focus on their objectives for the season.
