A Nigerian man, identified as Mr Francis Ushie, has recounted how he allegedly lost contact with his wife and children after relocating them to Canada, saying he has been left homeless and alone in Lagos for about 13 years.
Ushie said the crisis began after he discovered what he described as infidelity on his wife’s part. Despite the difficulties in their marriage, he said he believed relocating to Canada would provide the family with a fresh start.
According to him, he paid two years’ rent in advance in Canada and made significant sacrifices to ensure that his family settled comfortably. He also said he eventually resigned from his banking job after the family obtained permanent residency in Canada.
However, Ushie alleged that shortly after his wife and children arrived in Canada, his wife blocked him from communicating with them and refused to provide him with their home address.
This whole thing started with infidelity on her own part. But I felt that when we leave Nigeria to Canada, things would be better. I even paid two years’ rent in advance in Canada, but I didn’t know she was planning to take my children away from me.”
He said the situation has left him devastated, adding that he is considering writing to the Canadian authorities to present his account of what happened.
I’m still considering writing to the Canadian Government to let them know what transpired,” he said.
Despite the years of separation, Ushie said he remains open to reconciling with his wife if she is also willing to make the effort.
I’m still ready to reconcile with my wife if she’s willing to do the same,” he stated.
Reflecting on the sacrifices he made for his family, Ushie expressed hope that his children would eventually see his account of events and understand what he went through to provide them with opportunities abroad.
I hope my children get to see this video and know that I suffered to send them to Canada with everything I had. I even resigned from my banking job. Now I’m homeless, suffering and alone,” he said.
