Man Shares Story of Survival After Stage 5 Kidney Failure Diagnosis

A man has shared his account of surviving stage 5 kidney failure after doctors reportedly gave him about two months to live, attributing his recovery to his faith in God, prayers and medical treatment.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed in the account, said he was initially being treated for malaria and typhoid in August 2025 but failed to respond to treatment.

According to him, he was rushed to the hospital, where comprehensive tests revealed that he had stage 5 kidney failure, also known as end-stage kidney disease.

He recounted how his health deteriorated rapidly, leaving his body swollen and making it difficult for him to eat, urinate and use the toilet.

The condition reportedly became so severe that he underwent six blood transfusions after his blood level dropped to 18 per cent. Doctors subsequently advised him to prepare for a kidney transplant.

He said he began dialysis three times a week, describing the treatment as financially, physically and spiritually draining.

Recounting his journey, the man said he travelled to Lagos on October 17, 2025, which was his birthday, and sought help at a church belonging to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM).

He said he had been introduced to the church by his fiancĂ©e and received prayers and encouragement from members, including the church’s General Overseer.

According to him, he gave his life to Christ during a church service on October 19, 2025, and became more committed to prayer and his faith while continuing treatment.

He also recalled attending the church’s Power Must Change Hands programme in Abuja on July 4, 2025, where he participated in a prayer session that involved striking the parts of the body experiencing pain 21 times.

The man claimed that subsequent medical examinations showed no abnormalities in his liver and kidneys, despite his earlier diagnosis. However, he did not provide medical records or further details about the tests.

He said his health eventually improved and that he had been off dialysis for six months, describing his present condition as a complete restoration of his health.

The man also disclosed that he lost his job and other possessions during his illness but later received better employment offers, which he described as another sign of restoration.

Expressing gratitude, he said he had celebrated another birthday despite being told that he might have only two months to live.

He credited God for his survival and urged others to remain hopeful, drawing from his experience of battling a life-threatening illness.

However, recovery from stage 5 kidney failure requires medical assessment, and claims of restored kidney function should be confirmed through appropriate clinical tests. Prayer and religious support may provide emotional comfort, but they should not replace prescribed medical care, including dialysis or transplantation when necessary.
