
Youths of Mgbakwu Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday, August 6, 2026, laid to rest Mr. Chinyeaka Ike, popularly known as Akidi, who died after he was allegedly shot during an operation involving operatives of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA).
The late Chinyeaka had remained in the mortuary for several months following the incident, which drew widespread attention and prompted calls from residents and community members for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Many residents had hoped that the outcome of the government’s inquiry would provide answers and accountability. However, some members of the community expressed disappointment, saying the matter was not resolved to their satisfaction.
As the burial ceremony took place, concerns were raised over tension in parts of the community, with residents urging everyone to remain peaceful and avoid actions capable of causing unrest or endangering lives.

Community members also called on relevant authorities to continue promoting justice, peace, and respect for the rule of law, while praying that the late Chinyeaka Ike’s family finds comfort and that such incidents do not recur.
