ASABA- The President, National Council For Women Societies -Nigeria ( NCWS), Delta State Branch, Mrs Helen Tsitse Bob-Manuel has said that the family is the most important agents of socialization that helps every Society in nation building.
The Delta NCWS President made this assertion yesterday while delivering a Speech during a three days Workshop (13th-15th) November, 2019, held at Orchid Hotel, DBS Road, Asaba, Delta State Capital organized by NCWS, Delta State Branch on the Role of the Family in Nation Building by dwelling on the theme: “Family the Bedrock of the Nation”.
Historically Speaking, Mrs Bob- Manuel Stated that National Council for Women Societies- Nigeria (NCWS) is a Non- political, Non- governmental Organization founded in 1958 and Incorporated in 1965 as the umbrella Organizations of all Women groups, associations in Nigeria and other affiliated groups within and outside the country with structures in the 36 states of the Federation and FCT, Abuja and the 774 LGAs in Nigeria.
Mrs Bob-Manuel commended the wife of the Governor of Delta State, Dame Edith Okowa, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and all other critical Stakeholders in the Women folds, members and the Leadership of NCWS, Delta State Branch for participating in the Workshop and therefore thanked them for their immense support over the years towards ensuring that the task of reposition Women to inculcate good moral upbringing, norms and best societal values capable of promoting national development and Women and Children liberation in the State and Nigeria in general.
In Nigeria, precisely Delta State, the Council no doubt, is the voice of the voiceless for Women all over the country and had played vital role in the area of girl -child Education, Children’s health, case for vulnerable children, PVC sensitization, Women involvement in Politics, Agriculture, empowerment and others through training, Workshop, sensitization, and various advocacy exercises.
The dignitaries who graced the occassion included amongst others: The Chairman of the occasion who doubled as the current Chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission ( DESSOPADEC), Hon. Chief Michael Diden, Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon Mrs Flora Alanta, and participants of NCWS drawn from the 25 LGAs of the State, others are: The Executive Assistant to the Governor, Special duties, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, Director Women Affairs, Mrs faith Akpowhororo, a good number of LGA Chairpersons were present, female HPM, Wives of HPM, Wives of TLGs, WDOs, some female political office holders, Local Government officials, Legislative Arm Leaders’ wives, gentlemen of the press.
The resource persons who delivered papers at the seminar are: Prof. Mrs Ebele .J. Egwuyenga, Dr. David Oba, and Barr. Mrs Aghogho, Atarhierere.
The good will message was delivered by Hon Commissioner for Women Affair, Hon Mrs Flora Alanta, Executive assistant to the Governor, Barr. Bridget Anyafulu, the secretary to Oshimili South LG, Elder Franklin .G. Oba, Vice Chairman, Warri South LG, Chief Mrs Iniovosa, Director in the office of the Public defender, Delta State, Mrs Monica Odafefolie, Executive assistant to the Governor on Political matters, Hon Pastor Humphery .R. Uzuakpundu.
Mrs Bob-Manuel who commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in his developmental strides in the State and support for Women and Children, also appealed to Delta State Government, Stakeholders and other well meaning Nigerians to support the Leadership of NCWS in the State towards the completion of her State Secretariat office (located in Asaba) that is yet to completed for better coordination of the activities of Women in the State.
She commended the efforts of the Leadership of NCWS in Delta State and Nigeria in General while stating that the group had done well in pursuits of her various aims and objectives, adding that gender mainstreaming, protection of Women and Children’s rights, eventual emergence of Women in different political positions, and others had been some of the major achievements from NCWS advocacy.
