The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has moved to strengthen its internal structure ahead of the forthcoming elections with the formal recognition of Dr SKC Ogbonnia as the party’s leader in the state.
The decision was announced by the State Chairman of the party, Dr Johnpaul Anih, during the seventh State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held in Enugu on Saturday.
Anih said the recognition was aimed at strengthening cohesion within the party and ensuring that experienced stakeholders play a central role in its political development.
He described Ogbonnia as a respected statesman and committed party stakeholder whose experience, intellectual capacity and political contributions had played an important role in the growth and consolidation of the NDC in Enugu State.
“Dr SKC Ogbonnia remains our leader in Enugu State. He is a man of immense intellectual capacity, remarkable political sagacity and unquestionable pedigree,” Anih said.
The chairman said the party would continue to recognise and respect its founding members, elders and other stakeholders who had contributed to building its structures across the state.
According to him, bringing such figures into prominent leadership positions would help promote unity and mutual respect among the various organs of the party.
Anih also urged members and supporters of the NDC to support the party’s leadership and prioritise its collective interests above personal ambitions.
He said the party was focused on building a formidable political structure capable of expanding its grassroots presence and increasing its influence across Enugu State.
The NDC chairman expressed optimism that the cooperation of party leaders, stakeholders and grassroots members would position the party as a strong political force in the forthcoming elections.
The recognition of Ogbonnia is expected to further define the leadership structure of the NDC in Enugu as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate its presence and mobilise support ahead of the elections.
