The Nigerian passport has dropped to 90th position in the latest Henley Passport Index, highlighting its limited global travel access compared to many other countries.
According to the updated ranking, Nigerian passport holders can currently access 44 destinations without obtaining a visa in advance. These include countries offering visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or electronic travel authorisation.
The destinations accessible to Nigerian passport holders include Barbados, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi (visa on arrival), Cambodia (visa on arrival), Cameroon, Cape Verde Islands, Chad, Comoro Islands (visa on arrival), Cook Islands, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Dominica, Fiji, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Iran (visa on arrival), Kenya, Kiribati, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar (visa on arrival), Maldives (visa on arrival), Mali, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Mozambique, Niger, Niue (visa on arrival), Palau Islands (visa on arrival), Rwanda, Samoa (visa on arrival), Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, St. Kitts and Nevis, The Gambia, Timor-Leste (visa on arrival), Togo, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without securing a visa beforehand. The ranking is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is updated regularly to reflect changes in global visa policies.
Nigeria’s latest position underscores the continued travel restrictions faced by its citizens, with many popular destinations still requiring visas before entry.
