A Nigerian man has shared his ordeal after stopping to help victims of a ghastly road accident.
According to him, when he saw the accident, he couldn’t just pass. He parked, came down and, with others, rushed some of the victims who were bleeding heavily to the hospital since emergency responders delayed for over 30 minutes.
But to his shock, on getting to the general hospital, doctors reportedly said there were no beds and asked them to go to another hospital. After much back and forth, they were finally admitted — but not without demands for payment.
In his words:
> “They said they can’t start treatment until payment was made. I ended up paying over ₦200,000 that night. Meanwhile, I didn’t even have ₦50k to my name. I had to call two of my friends to send money before doctors touched them.”
The man added that he spent hours at the hospital giving his own details as guarantor for strangers, while some of the victims’ family members were unreachable.
Frustrated, he concluded that Nigerians shouldn’t be too quick to blame people who refuse to stop at accident scenes, because “you don’t know what they have seen.”
