Youths Tear Tinubu-Branded Shirts

A group of Nigerian youths have reportedly protested after allegedly discovering that campaign-branded shirts were being distributed at an Independence Day five-kilometre run organised at PTI Junction.

In a video circulating online, the youths could be seen expressing anger over what they described as being misled about the nature of the event.

According to participants, they had gathered at PTI Junction expecting to take part in the Independence Day run but were instead presented with “Soft Nigeria” polo shirts allegedly bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The youths claimed they were not informed beforehand that the event would involve the distribution of politically branded clothing.

Footage from the scene showed some participants tearing the shirts as they voiced their displeasure.

Some of the youths also threatened to boycott the planned five-kilometre run, saying they felt they had been deceived into attending the event.

The protesters were heard chanting “Peter Obi” repeatedly during the incident, while expressing their opposition to what they perceived as an attempt to use the event for political mobilisation.

The circumstances surrounding the organisation of the event, including who provided the shirts and whether participants were informed about their political branding beforehand, could not be independently established from the video.
