Nigerians Demand Justice After Suspect Shot Dead by Police Officers in Public

Suspect Shot Dead

Widespread outrage has followed the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly showing the extrajudicial killing of a suspect by men believed to be police officers in Delta State.

The 90-second clip, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday via user #Dee_9889, captures a shocking scene in broad daylight. Armed men in civilian clothing are seen beside a vehicle marked “Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command.”

In the footage, a man with his hands and legs bound lies on the ground, pleading for his life while addressing the armed men as “officers.” He is heard offering to cooperate and provide information, claiming a friend had deceived him.

“Officers, abeg… I’ll tell you everything,” the suspect repeatedly begged, adding that he could lead them to the said accomplice in Sapele.

Despite his pleas, one of the armed men fired at the suspect’s leg. Moments later, as the man continued crying and begging, a second shot was fired at him at close range. The lifeless body was then carried into the police-marked vehicle by two men before they left the scene.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation across social media platforms, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and justice. Critics have described the act as a blatant violation of human rights and due process.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu reacted to the footage, calling it “deeply disturbing” and alleging that the perpetrators were officers attached to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State.

“This is a live execution carried out by some armed men alleged to be police officers,” he said, urging authorities to launch an immediate investigation.
