Nkem Okoro, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia State, alongside with the entire members of the State Executive Committee, SWC, have dumped party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State.
Others that defected to the APC included the APGA chairmen for the seventeen(17) Local Government Areas of Abia State and APGA chairmen of one hundred and eighty-four, (184) wards of the state.
However, in his address on behalf of others decampees during their declaration event held at the APC State Secretariat located along Azikwe/Adelabu Street, Umuahia, Hon. Nkem Okoro, said the decision for the mass defection from APGA to APC was taken after wide consultation with their supporters at all levels who were in agreement that the APC represents a progressives platform with the ideals and vision required to put Abia on a prosperous path.
He disclosed that the decision to join the governing APC became more cogent and expedient, after the leader of APGA in Abia state, Alex Otti, joined the party with thousands of APGA supporters.
“We have trooped out here with the progressive zeal, passion and commitment to wholeheartedly join the APC with the desire to selflessly support the vision of the APC aimed at ensuring that the Abia of our collective dream is achieved.
“As leaders of APGA at all levels, we showed hard work and commitment devoid of compromise in leading our party men and women. We want to assure you that, we shall deploy same virtues of commitment and sincerity as APC members to passionately work for the growth and expansion of the Abia APC at all levels.
“Our mass defection marks the end of our journey in APGA. We are joining the Abia APC with our spirits and souls, and with the determination to make people oriented sacrifices aimed at taking the party, (APC) to an enviable height.
“We know that the constitution and ideologies of the APC, attach so much priority to discipline, loyalty and supremacy of the party over every individual, we are excited because our track record of commitment, discipline and loyalty would make it easier for us to quickly integrate and be part of the big APC family”.
Okoro promised that the Abia leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC, would enjoy unprecedented cooperation, support and solidarity from them as they were convinced that the APC required a new kind of support and inspiration from all to effectively play its role as the governing party at the national, and as well, an opposition party in Abia state.
While welcoming the APGA defectors into the Abia APC fold, the State Party Chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, rassured them of a level playing ground, and made it clear that they stood to enjoy the same rights and privileges which old members might be enjoying.
