Anambra State Polytechnic Students shuts down Government House as students protest lack of accreditation, infrastructure, hike in school fees and bad roads leading to the school.
The protest which was led by the SUG President, Innocent Ikegbunam whom while addressing the press and some State Government delegation, frowned at the negligence of the government of Gov. Willie Obiano on the plights of the students. He laments that students after graduation could not join other students in the compulsory youth service (NYSC) and that most of their students who have graduated from the school are regarded as second class citizen; for nonrecognition of the school Nation wide.
He also pointed out the state of the roads leading to the school. “Student will board a bus or tricycle to the school but will end up either arriving late for lectures or some of the bus driver’s refusal to convey us to the school gate. Those who accepts to take us to the school gate end up collecting more than the usual fare”.
The Student Union Government tasked the State Government to come to their aid by remobilising the contractors in charge of the road construction at Mgbakwu-Ebenebe road. You’ll recalled that the road has been under construction since Gov. Willie took over from the past administration and after his second tenure election, contractors left the site and hasn’t returned to work. The state of the road is of great concern for the indigenes, residents and commuters as well.
