Not A New Bridge — Odumeje Reacts To Government’s Onitsha Head Bridge Publicity

Controversial Anambra-based cleric, Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has criticised the government over what he described as the celebration of the Onitsha Head Bridge, which he claimed was originally constructed decades ago.

Odumeje questioned the rationale behind celebrating the maintenance or rehabilitation of the bridge as though it were a newly constructed infrastructure project.

Speaking on the development, the cleric said: “If I see any of you at Onitsha Head Bridge celebrating that you maintained a 1950s bridge for the South-East, Holy Ghost will kill you there.”

He further criticised what he described as excessive publicity surrounding the bridge on social media, arguing that the presentation could give the impression that the infrastructure was newly constructed.

According to him, the situation reflects a broader problem with how infrastructure development is perceived and celebrated in the country.

This country has no conscience. If you see the way the government is showing this bridge everywhere on the internet, you will think it is a newly constructed bridge, without knowing that it is a bridge built years ago.”

Odumeje likened the situation to someone celebrating a vehicle that had been parked for more than five decades simply because it was repainted.

Imagine someone celebrating his car that he parked for over 50 years after repainting it.
