At the media Parley with members of Nigeria Union of Journalists on Thursday held in Awka, the APGA leading aspirant in the Anambra governorship election 2021, has advised that people should stop criticizing the executive governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano on the purported plans to have Prof Chukwuma Soludo succeed him. Nwankpo noted that no one should begrudge the governor if he found Prof.Soludo a suitable successor because he believed that every governor did same on the verge of leaving office.
According to Nwankpo, “In the case of Soludo, I don’t know how true it is but there is a general impression that there was a commitment before now made by the governor to Soludo. So the governor as a public officer and as someone with good disposition and person of character, if he made a promise to Soludo he would make efforts to keep it.
“If I am in Soludo’s shoes, I will demand that he keeps it; if I am in Obiano’s shoes I will make efforts to keep it. So for me, I have no controversies around the matter. The governor is within his rights to look for a successor.”
Nwankpo also said that, just as Soludo has a right to demand that a promise made to him imagined or real, be kept, all APGA members have a right to demand that the Governor and BOT Chairman of APGA also keeps his promise that APGA will not die in his hands. As an Aspirant, Akachukwu Nwankpo insists that He and other aspirants are providing the Governor with more credible options to pick from. Akachukwu also urged all APGA members to pray that God grants the Governor more insight to make the right decision.
He concluded “If the party at the primary election decides to choose Prof Soludo, all well and good. I will congratulate him, and work for the party to win the election. However, I strongly believe that the APGA faithfuls know who, and what they want. We shall be there at the primary election”.
