Police officers from the ‘A’ Division, Moore, Ile-Ife, subsequently joined the university security personnel at the scene.
The student was taken to the university’s Health Centre, where a medical doctor certified him dead.
While reports have described the incident as an alleged suicide, the university said the circumstances surrounding the death were of concern and confirmed that the police had commenced an investigation.
OAU said relevant information and items recovered from the scene had been transferred to the police to assist the investigation.
The development has left students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering mourning the loss of their final-year colleague, with the students’ association describing his death as a painful loss to the department.

The institution also encouraged members of the university community experiencing severe emotional distress, relationship difficulties, financial pressures or other personal challenges to seek support from trusted individuals and appropriate university structures.
