The Obidient Movement has condemned the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, accusing the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration of abusing state institutions and rewarding individuals facing corruption allegations.
In a statement signed by its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement described the composition of the campaign council as evidence of what it called the “normalization of corruption and abuse of power” under the Tinubu administration.
The group took particular exception to the appointment of Dr Zacchaeus Adedeji, Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
According to the Obidient Movement, the appointment raises serious concerns about conflict of interest and the alleged use of government institutions for partisan political activities.
“The country’s chief tax collector is now a fundraiser for the President’s re-election campaign,” the group said, describing the development as a “brazen weaponization of state institutions for partisan political gain.”
It questioned how an official entrusted with collecting taxes from Nigerians and businesses could simultaneously hold a senior position in the President’s political campaign structure.
The movement also criticised the inclusion of individuals it said had faced serious corruption allegations, specifically naming former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, and Ngozi Olejeme.
It alleged that the development showed that political loyalty had taken precedence over accountability under the present administration.
“Rather than accountability, they have been rewarded with roles in the President’s political machinery,” the group alleged.
The Obidient Movement further tied its criticism of the campaign council to the administration’s economic policies, accusing the government of worsening Nigeria’s debt burden while millions of Nigerians continue to grapple with poverty, inflation and insecurity.
It alleged that Nigeria’s debt portfolio had “nearly doubled” within three years and accused the administration of borrowing while allegedly prioritising political activities and rewarding allies.
The group said Nigerians were being asked to endure economic hardship while the government remained focused on retaining political power.
“Nigerians have never had it this bad,” the statement declared, describing the administration’s alleged efforts to retain power as an “unbridled desperation.”
The Obidient Movement warned that Nigerians would not accept what it described as impunity and institutional abuse ahead of the 2027 elections.
It maintained that Nigerians were closely watching the actions of the government and would use their votes to decide its fate at the polls.
The group urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and hold political leaders accountable, insisting that the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for citizens to express their judgement on the performance of the Tinubu administration.
