Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has revealed that she and several other prominent actors were allegedly banned from acting in 2015 after pushing for higher standards and better structures in the Nigerian movie industry.

Omotola made the revelation during a recent interview on Yanga FM, explaining that the dispute involved some of Nollywood’s biggest names, including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), and Nkem Owoh.

According to Omotola, the actors were pushing for improvements in the industry, particularly better standards, accountability and stronger structures for practitioners.

She said their efforts allegedly made some movie marketers view the group as a negative influence, eventually leading to the actors being prevented from appearing in movies.

“Me, Genevieve, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, RMD, Nkem Owoh…we were all banned from acting in 2015 because we were pushing for the standards of the Nigerian movie industry to be better.”

Omotola further disclosed that a reconciliation meeting was later organised to resolve the disagreement, although she chose not to attend.
