Omoyofunmi Segun IBB, Prof Ajibefun, and Engineer Alabi singled out for commendation
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for what it described as a thoughtful and commendable selection of commissioner nominees. This follows the governor’s release of a list containing 12 names for ratification by the State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Oyeniyi Iwakun, the SDP acknowledged that, despite being an opposition party, the appointments reflect a commendable shift from conventional political patronage to the engagement of technocrats and reputable professionals.
“The majority of those nominated are distinguished figures with proven character, signaling the governor’s rational departure from the old order of career politicians,” Iwakun stated.
Highlighting some of the nominees, the party’s spokesman described Omoyofunmi Segun IBB as an outstanding former student leader with impressive leadership credentials. He also lauded Prof. Ajibefun for his recognised work ethic and transformational leadership, while noting Engineer Alabi’s remarkable contributions to the state’s power sector as Special Adviser.
The statement further expressed optimism that the inclusion of youth and credible professionals in the cabinet would position the administration for effective, independent governance, free from external interference.
However, the SDP reiterated its commitment to constructive opposition, pledging to hold public office holders accountable through lawful and democratic means.
“We expect optimal performance from all nominees upon ratification. Should anyone fall short, we will not hesitate to fulfil our watchdog role, as democracy demands,” the statement read.
The party also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his responsiveness to public concerns and advised the administration to sustain this listening posture in the overall interest of Ondo State.
