The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to use alternative routes as emergency responders continue recovery operations following two crashes at Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early Friday.
The first crash, which occurred around 12:05 a.m. on the outbound lane to Ibadan, involved five articulated trucks and a Toyota Sienna. The FRSC attributed the accident to speeding and loss of control. Seven men were involved, with one person killed, one injured, and five escaping unhurt. Recovery efforts are ongoing as the victim’s body remains trapped beneath a truck.
While rescue operations were in progress, a second crash occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on the inbound lane to Lagos. The lone accident involved a Mazda commercial bus and was blamed on brake failure. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre for treatment.
The FRSC, alongside other emergency agencies, is clearing the wreckage and has urged motorists heading to Ibadan to use the Ikorodu-Sagamu route, while those travelling into Lagos should consider the Lekki-Epe or Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressways until normal traffic is restored
