The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has come under legal challenge as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The two petitions were formally displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, 2026, marking the commencement of the legal battle over the August 15 governorship election.

The APC’s petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The petition names Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

Similarly, the PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the election result had been filed.

The formal display of the petitions is expected to trigger the next stage of the electoral dispute, including the service of court processes on the respondents and subsequent hearings.

Governor Adeleke was declared winner of the August 15 election and returned for another term, but the separate petitions by the APC and PDP mean the outcome will now face scrutiny before the tribunal.

The legal proceedings could determine whether the disputed election result will stand or whether any of the petitioners can establish grounds sufficient to warrant judicial intervention.
